Tennis star Serena Williams gave birth to a girl on Friday in West Palm Beach, a town in eastern Florida, local media reported, sparking a wave of warm congratulations from her colleagues and fans.
Williams, who turns 36 this month, entered St. Mary’s Medical Center on Wednesday, which closed the entire floor as a security measure.
The birth was taking place while Serena’s older sister, Venus Williams, won the fourth round ticket of the year’s Grand Slam at the New York Tennis Open.
It was leaked to the press that the tennis player had given birth to a 3-kg baby. Celebrity magazine US Weekly also quoted an anonymous source close to the family who confirmed the birth.
